Packing for a European or International Move

Lund Conlon has as many years of experience in moving people to Europe and Internationally as it has within the UK.

The packing process is largely the same for moves further afield, however, extra padding and covering will be used to minimize movement during transport.

As the packing commences, the team will complete a comprehensive inventory of all your belongings as each box is filled or item wrapped.

Our experienced pre-move surveyor will provide you beforehand with the customs regulations pertaining to your destination country.

Depending on where in the world your consignment needs to go, your effects could travel by sea, air, or road.

International consignments are generally containerised, and sent by sea.

Journey times vary according to country, but, it can take several weeks for your consignment to arrive at its destination countries port of entry.

It is vital that everything is secure and well packed as these large vessels often encounter rough seas.

Long road journeys are also subject to a lot of vibration which can sometimes result in load shifting. Protecting and securing the load tightly is  imperative.

Irrespective of how your goods are transported Lund Conlon’s first-class packers work hard to make sure that everything arrives in one piece.

Insurance

At Lund Conlon we pride ourselves on delivering a first-class service.

However, no matter how meticulously our moves are carried out, there are risks involved which are outside our control. Transporting your consignment is a classic example.

Whilst we may have packed and loaded your effects with utmost care and attention, there is always a possibility, however slight, that an accident could occur whilst they are in transit.

This is why we offer our customers insurance cover.

If you provide us with an insurance declaration of the value of your goods, the amount of our liability to you in the event of loss or damage to those goods will be a maximum of £50,000.

We can accept insurance liability for a higher amount, in which case we may make an additional charge.

If you decide not to take out any insurance with us, you may find your own house insurance has some form of cover for goods in transit.

For anything we move for you which is not covered by either your own or our insurance, in the event of any loss or damages, caused by negligence or breach of contract on our part.

Our liability to you will be assessed as a sum equivalent to the cost of their repair or replacement, subject to a maximum liability of £40 per item.

Shopping in St Ives

The wonderful thing about St Ives is that shopping is a pleasure, not a chore.

Despite the fact the town is in an area that has a number of well-known towns and cities to shop in nearby such as Cambridge, there is no real necessity to travel far.

Everything you need is right here in St Ives.

For your convenience, major food stores abound. Tesco, Morrisons, Co-op, and Waitrose all have shops in the town.

There are also plenty of independent stores waiting to be discovered.

La Muse is an ideal example. Stocking an eclectic mix of clothing, jewellery handbags, and interior decoration items from all over the world.

Each Monday the town is extra busy. The population swells to include shoppers eager to browse the many market stalls along Market Hill.

The town centre roads are closed, and stalls spill out all around the market square area.

There is a huge selection of different items across the many stalls.

When you have finished shopping, you can relax and sit by one of the riverside cafes or restaurants and enjoy lunch with a view!

Floods Tavern is the perfect spot. Right on the River Great Ouse, it is a wonderful setting, popular with all manner of river craft as you can moor up outside.

Schools & Education in St Ives

St Ives has four primary schools, and all are rated as being “good” says Ofsted.

Eastfield Infants & Nursery, Thorndown Primary, Westfield Junior and Wheatfied Primary.

The main secondary school is St Ivo Academy. This school joined the sponsor or multi-academy trust after the start of the 2018/19 academic year.

St Ivo has the added benefit of a sixth form provision which negates the need to travel out of the town for further education.

In 2021, Ofsted reported that the quality of education and the Sixth Form Provision were “good”.

The closest private school is five miles from St Ives in Somersham.

Whitehall School is for children aged 1-11years. It is among some of the top independent schools in the county.

Public Transport in St Ives

St Ives is lucky enough to have excellent travel links via public transport and in particular, a guided busway.

Known locally as The Busway, it connects St Ives to Huntingdon, Cambridge, and Cambridge Science Park.

It is the longest guided busway in the world, overtaking the O-Bahn Busway in Adelaide, South Australia.

Stagecoach and Whippet combine to run busway services.

Bus services routes are also available to Cambridge and Huntingdon. These are frequent during the day, though less frequent in the evenings.

There are also buses to Somersham, Ramsey, and Cambourne.

Driving in St Ives

Having access to a good road network is vital for both work and pleasure.

The town sits just off the A1307 connecting it to several other A and B roads across the town.

A new bypass, the (A14) opened in December 2019. It has eased the historic congestion problems St Ives and the wider district used to suffer.

Just west of the town is the A1 motorway.

This major motorway link provides quick routes to several large towns and cities including, Cambridge, Peterborough, and Northampton.

The A1 means you can reach Sheffield (north) in 2 hours 20 minutes and London (south) in 2 hours.

A northern bypass has been under discussion for some time but is not expected any time soon.
